MCMA Question & Answer with Kris Ruby of Ruby Media Group

Standard

This past Wednesday, October 8, the Mercy College Marketing Association, which I am the Social Media Coordinator for, traveled to Battery Park in Manhattan to meet with Kris Ruby of Ruby Media Group. Kris Ruby is the CEO and founder of Ruby Media Group and an expert in Social Media and Public Relations. Ruby Media Group has created multiple award winning social media and PR campaigns in the New York area. Kris Ruby held an open Q&A with the Mercy College Marketing Association.

During the Q&A, Kris Ruby discussed how she created her brand and company, how to brand yourself, social media, and what it takes to be a star intern. What stroke me most was when Ruby discussed creating your own brand. She advised to stay active in your industry and become involved. To brand yourself start locally and build up! Think on your feet and have your own perspective, and share it! She encouraged blogging and sharing your opinions. Her thoughts on networking were to put yourself out there, make it about the other person, and sometimes you have to force yourself to not be shy, it will pay off! As for interns, she personally looks for :

  1. No typos
    2. Personalize
    3. Talk about what they can do of value for the company
    4. Find your asset area
    5. Attention to detail especially with correspondence
    6. Skill that stands out
    7. Go getter
    8. Experience in the area

A special thank-you to Kris Ruby and Ruby Media Group for hosting the Mercy College Marketing Association, and for sharing such valuable information!
